Hello from Shanghai on the northeastern coast of China. Still feasting my eyes and mind and everything else on this extraordinary and delicious adventure. Here’s a quick note on our doings:
Soup dumplings are a big thing back home now, and have been in China, and particularly Shanghai, for a long, long time. This little shop is just around the corner from our hotel and we have been there several times, lucky enough to avoid the usual long lines since we can go at off hours.
Small, steamy, lots of take out orders, small focused menu, they get us in and out and take care of giving us the delights we came for in a timeless effective wonderful way.
Next to eating the dumplings, I adore the show — there are staffers busy making dumplings every time we’ve been in.
Note the delicate rolling pins which these pros wield with astounding speed and skill.
See the steam? Eat them while they are hot! SO SO GOOD!
In our lovely hotel, it’s been beginning to look a lot like Christmas….they were more than ready when we arrived. So sweet!
One of a number of holiday gingerbread displays around the lobby and public areas.
The lobby coffee bar offers holiday goodies from the hotel bakery to take home and share through the season…
And of course, Starbucks is ubiquitous and they are ON IT in terms of holiday expressions. Love it. Already had fruitcake and next up are their tiny salute to bouche de Noel! For me, when I stop in for a break.
I’ll tell you all about this feast soon, but for now, let me leave you with this shot of my traveling partner (30+ years and still going strong) and the founder of the feast. It’s this wonderful guy’s business trip that opened this journey up and I am so lucky and so happy.
More soon! Cheers to you from China and thank you for checking in here…
